I served as a member of the Utah Governor's cabinet and the Executive Director of the Governor's Office of Economic Opportunity (the state's economic development agency). I also served as the majority whip in the Utah State Senate.
Before politics, I operated several small businesses, including a multi-location retail dry cleaning operation and multiple full-service restaurants, which I still own. Before that, I was a managing director of a private equity fund, the CFO/CIO of a family office/asset management firm, and the CFO of a venture-backed technology company (successfully sold). I also spent a year as an associate at a large international law firm in DC, a year in Switzerland at a large private equity, venture capital, and hedge fund, and two years in banking.
I have an undergraduate degree in economics, a master’s degree in business administration, and a law degree, all from Brigham Young University. I live in Orem, am married to Natalie, and have six wonderful kids. I like reading, skiing, running, biking, climbing mountains, and cooking.
